Eduroam English

Welcome to the portal dedicated to supporting and spreading IP mobility and roaming within the Czech NREN. The project is carried on by the CESNET a.l.e.

Eduroam Project

The Eduroam Project is designed for both wireless connection and hard-wiring of mobile users to the computer network of JAMU. This project enables both students and employees of JAMU to get connected with the same login and password which applies also at a number of other universities.
The idea to enable the users of interconnected networks easy and transparent use came out of TERENA mobility TF. Our task is to make the use of any network connected to our roaming space as easy as the use of roaming in cell-phone networks. Users have one account (at their home site) and this account grants them permission to use any wireless network connected into eduroam. CESNET has been a member of TERENA mobility TF since its beginnings and has been striving to fulfil the real-world parameters of this task.
CESNET´s task is to coordinate and promote eduroam ideas at a national level, supporting academic organizations interested in cooperation with project. CESNET also tries to present interest of Czech Academic Networks at the European level in TERENA mobility TF. Last but not least, we run and develop the infrastructure needed for

Mobility and Roaming

As mentioned above, the Eduroam Project facilitates the connection both at the home and other organizations (universities) involved in this project. The connection outside the home organization is provided by the authentication and authorization infrastructure (AAI), through which the access information (username and password or certificate) is transferred from the user to the user's home organization where their account was created. Here, the decision is then made on the grounds of the information received about the user, whether they will be granted access to the network. Definitions of relations between the organizations cooperating in the Eduroam Project, rights and obligations of users and network administrators of organizations can be found at roaming policy.

Most organizations involved in the Eduroam Project offer several ways to connect your mobile device (laptop, PDA, etc.). The most common method is implemented as a wireless network (WiFi), according to the standard of IEEE 802.11b (11Mbit / s), 802.11g (54Mbit / s), 802.11a (54Mbit / s) or 802.11n (300Mbit / s). The name of the wireless network SSID is Eduroam. The network uses a secure WPA or WPA2 with PEAP-MSCHAPv2 authentication and TKIP / AES encryption.

Authentication Options

Several mechanisms are used for the authentication of users accessing via wireless network or hard-wiring. The preferred method of authentication, whether in terms of safety or comfort, is the authentication IEEE 802.1X. This mechanism provides secure authentication, encrypted data transmission and is supported by the majority of modern network elements and operating systems. Guest users must have their Eduroam account set up in and by their home institutions. Students and staff of JAMU have the Eduroam account which is identical to the one used for other services.
If you lose your password or user name, contact the network administrator for your site.
